Bakin’ and Craftin’

Baking and Crafting go hand in hand… don’t ya think?

Especially during the holidays and birthdays!

We are having a little office party on Tuesday for one of our team member’s birthday.  So, after I was done bakin’, I added craftin’ to decorate the cupcakes.

The flavors requested were vanilla cake with whipped frosting. Such a pure, sweet cupcake choice. I always like to add something extra in the cupcakes as a little surprise.

This very basic vanilla cupcake recipe has a Golden Oreo cookie on the bottom. A nice sweet, little crunch!

I made a vanilla whipped frosting, called “The Best Frosting I Ever Had”.

It’s made with milk, flour,  butter, white sugar and vanilla. But you basically beat the dickens out of it to get it to whip up so yummy! And I picked up some super fine Nielsen-Massey Vanilla extract when I was at Williams Sonoma last month. So, I knew with that super fine addition, the frosting was going to be finger-licking good! (Ya gotta get the extra off the spatula some how!)

First you need to heat the milk and flour over medium heat and whisk until it’s like brownie batter. (I know, STRANGE!)

Then after you beat the heck out of butter and granulated sugar until the granules are gone, you add the room temperature “rue” and beat the heck out of that too until it’s whipped. (haha!)

So, in between all these steps to baking the cupcakes, to making the frosting rue and then whipping it all together, I started making the cute decoration for the top.

I got this cute web and spider die punch from Lifestyle Crafts. They sent it as a little thanks for becoming an affiliate. And I say, no, THANK YOU!

I mean, how cute is that! I used purple paper and glittered to bling out the spider! I also wanted to use something other than black and white, so my favorite halloween colors are purple and green (ya know, like the wicked witch… she’s SCARY!)

I secure any glitter on paper with hairspray. It works like a charm everytime and dries quickly.

So, I hope my teammate at work appreciates my efforts, I’m sure he will.

I had a great time today combining two of my favorite passions, baking and crafting!

I hope you enjoyed my post today. And, if you are preparing any kind of goodies for Halloween, why not take a few extra minutes and add a cute little cupcake topper that you made.

Here are a few more of my favorites from Lifestyle Crafts.

What a fun cut out… the skeleton!

I want to modge podge these little monster faces onto a couple of white pumpkins!

And the great witch hat, stocking and broom! Check out this cute idea!

Hope you all have a great week.
